Broncos Week 17 Post-Game Analysis: Denver at San Diego

Well, that was…something.

I actually made my wife promise to not let me watch the game live.  I know that sounds crappy as a fan, but I couldn’t handle it.  I did DVR it so I could go back and review highlights (or lowlights as it was) and I get text alerts from our friends at ESPN with scoring updates.

All I can say is, I am pretty happy with my decision to not watch it.   Here is my take on what happened and even though I thought we would lose, I am still bummed.

The Broncos were throttled 21 – 52 Sunday, and for the first time during the entire 2008 season they were not in the division lead.  Unfortunately, that was the worst time to give that lead up as now the Chargers are the AFC West champions and will move on to face the Indianapolis Colts in the playoffs and the 8 – 8 Broncos get to go home.

Denver Broncos News: Young and Pope to the IR

Yesterday it was announced that Selvin Young ruptured a disc in his neck and P.J. Pope tore his hamstring in the loss Sunday to Buffalo.

I have never as a Broncos fan seen such an injury-plagued season like this one.  So far this year, Denver has lost 7…count them 7 running backs to the Injured Reserve list for the season.

Denver Broncos News: Tatum Bell signed to the roster

After losing rookie Ryan Torain to an ACL injury for the season and shuffling around whatever they have left in the running back tank, the Broncos signed former Detroit Lion and Denver Bronco Tatum Bell.

Given what was available and the condition of the Broncos backfield, I like the move.  He may take some time to get to playing shape but he knows the system and has proven he can run in it.  He also brings the home run threat with his breakaway speed.  The only negatives in my mind are that he is not exactly a tackle-breaking runner and tends to fumble the rock.  Even with all that, I like this move.  Reports are that he may be ready to go this Sunday for the Falcons game.
