NFL.com reports that ling-time Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan has been fired following an epic collapse to end the 2008 season.

I have to admit, this is a bit shocking. Buckle up Bronco nation, this could be a bumpy ride.

Well, that was…something.
I actually made my wife promise to not let me watch the game live. I know that sounds crappy as a fan, but I couldn’t handle it. I did DVR it so I could go back and review highlights (or lowlights as it was) and I get text alerts from our friends at ESPN with scoring updates.
All I can say is, I am pretty happy with my decision to not watch it. Here is my take on what happened and even though I thought we would lose, I am still bummed.
The Broncos were throttled 21 – 52 Sunday, and for the first time during the entire 2008 season they were not in the division lead. Unfortunately, that was the worst time to give that lead up as now the Chargers are the AFC West champions and will move on to face the Indianapolis Colts in the playoffs and the 8 – 8 Broncos get to go home.

Well, unfortunately I was pretty close to one thing in my preseason prediction. I said that this game very well could mean the division…and it does. After a disappointing loss to the Bills last week combined with a huge San Diego road win in Tampa Bay, the Broncos and Chargers will face off in the final week of the season for the division and playoff berth.

Yesterday it was announced that Selvin Young ruptured a disc in his neck and P.J. Pope tore his hamstring in the loss Sunday to Buffalo.
I have never as a Broncos fan seen such an injury-plagued season like this one. So far this year, Denver has lost 7…count them 7 running backs to the Injured Reserve list for the season.

Honestly, the season is over.

I hate to be negative and all doom and gloomy…but Denver just cannot win the games they need to and after a 30 – 23 loss AT HOME against the Bills they will have to beat San Diego in their house to win the division. No team, in the history of the NFL has ever blown a 3 game divisional lead with 3 games to go. Get ready Bronco fans, we are about to make history. Here is my take on the game, and P.S. I hate football.
